Betty Rubble

Elizabeth “Betty” Jean Rubble, formerly Miss McBricker, is the toe-headed best friend of Wilma Flintstone.  She is also a wife to Barney Rubble and the adoptive mother of Baam Baam Rubble.

Betty, being the least developed of the four main characters in the cartoon, is a sweet and gentle woman who has a wonderful marriage.  The affection between her and Barney is obvious as they call each other terms of endearment as well as hug and kiss throughout the series.

Her relationship with Wilma is a strong factor in the cartoon.  If they are not sending Morse code via their venetian blinds, they are together either figuring out what their husbands are up to or bailing them out of jail.  Rarely are they angry with each other as displayed in the episode “The House Guest.”

Betty has a distinctive and infectious laugh that was attempted by Rosie O’Donnell in the movie version of The Flintstones in 1994.
